Florence & the War
I had the great privilege to accompany my granddaughter’s class to the Florence Nightingale Museum, just across from St. Thomas’s Hospital in Westminster, London. The actor playing the part of the great nurse was astounding, bringing to life the Lady of the Lamp in quite an extraordinary way. Not only were the children fascinated but we all learned a great deal about the Crimean War, the establishment of nursing as a profession, the importance of hygiene in hospitals and how critical gathering and depicting evidence in the form of statistics can be. Florence is my latest feminist heroine.
